Tucked in the landscapes of San Juan Capistrano, the Ranch at Saddleback is home to a beautiful space for Christian organizations to host events and enjoy some rest and renewal.

I was tasked with developing the brand identity for the Ranch that honors the history and culture of its environment and establishes itself as a retreat for ministry teams and churches.

The Intersection of Tradition and Innovation

Inspired by the old-timey Wild West and modern-day Architecture companies, this brand mixes the old with the new, moving towards a fresh vision for the Ranch. It is grounded in warm browns and glyphic type work that honors the heritage of its city while maintaining a sense of modernity through serene photography, minimalist sans-serif fonts, and muted creams.

My intention behind this brand was to create a robust identity that encouraged versatility in application, which is why there is a variety in brand marks, an elaborate coloring system, and timely typography. This visual approach echoes the Ranch’s roots in San Juan Capistrano’s culture while remaining flexible to growth as it embarks on new endeavors as a retreat center.
